A two day wedding fest
April 30, 2007 | 3 Comments
Imagine the dilemma - you want a very small intimate wedding with just your close friends there but you’ve been looking forward to this days for ages and want the mother of all parties with your family and friends. What to do? Well, you could do what Tony and Karen did and have the best of both worlds. Or as I like to call it “a two day wedding fest”.
That’s what I’ve been shooting this weekend and it was a huge amount of fun - and incredibly tiring.
Friday 27th
First there was the “small intimate” wedding.
We were at the beautiful Bailiffs Court in Sussex. The group was very relaxed, the weather was great and since we had a little time to kill I suggested taking Alfie down onto the beach.

He had a great time running in and out of the waves.
Then it was time for the wedding. With just 10 guests (plus Alfie!) it was a lovely civil ceremony but it was even more special because we got to use the chapel at Bailiffs Court for a blessing.

A short service with hymns and prayers and then it was time for champagne. Tony was very pleased with his Louis Roederer Crystal - so pleased that I know this is going to make it into the album.

After a few candids of the guests and some portraits of Tony and Karen I left for the day - ready for the huge party the next day.

Saturday 28th
For a party this big it was clear they were going to need professional help. They asked Toni Davey from Isis Events Management to run everything (she’d planned the Friday too). She told me it was going to be pink. I had no idea just how pink…

As she said to me “well, if you’re going to do pink then you can’t mess about…” - with the red walls of the old science theatre at Salomons it looked stunning.
There were a couple of hundred guests there but I found time before things got too frantic for a few romantic portraits in the grounds.

Then it was pretty much full on, right until the silent fireworks….

OK they weren’t quite silent - but they were quiet enough to stop the neighbours complaining.
Carly and Gareth’s pictures are now online

Remember this sweet couple? Carly and Gareth are now back from their honeymoon in the lake district. They had a fantastic time and were thrilled when I sat down with them yesterday and showed them all their pictures.
They reckon they will have their album shots picked out “pretty soon” but I’m not so sure - they have 446 pictures to look through. You can catch an exclusive 1 minute slideshow of the day online or see all 446 of their pictures. And there are loads more pictures on YourWeddingStory.
What a sweetie

Somehow I knew this was going to be a fun wedding.
The forecast for Saturday was terrible. They said that occasionally we might get heavy showers - in between the solid rain. Great. I rang Carly a couple of days before her wedding to chat through last minute arrangements and it was great to hear she was out shopping for umbrellas. That’s cool because there’s no way we can change the day so we just have to roll with whatever weather we get. I put a couple of extra brollies and some huge flash guns in the car.
As it happened, none of us needed worry. The weather was beautiful, the venues were beautiful, the bride was beautiful, the groom was beautiful, err, I mean handsome and I for one had a fantastic time.
A couple of guests said to me late in the day “you’ve had a long day”. It didn’t really feel like it though - the day had flown by. When they brought out a fantastic cake and one of the best harmonica players I’ve seen in a long time it was actually I shame I had to leave.
