Francis and Colleen’s wedding at the Lansdowne Club

May 22, 2007

I love working in Kent. Registrars are cool and relaxed, venues are fantastic and it’s just so much easier to get around. It’s still great to pop into London now and again though. Of course you have to plan things well to avoid the traffic, find somewhere to park, make sure all your gear is easy to carry and take an assistant. The drive back in the evening can seem pretty long too - but it’s always worth it with people like Francis and Colleen and venues like the Lansdowne Club and this “little” church on Farm Street.

It’s hard not to get intimidated in places like that but the priest was just fantastic and made the whole day easy. Of course it was fairly dark in the church (and I would never use flash during a ceremony) but there’s plenty of space to move and I love the light in churches.

A couple of things made the day extra special for me.

Firstly the tea ceremony. Francis’ family wanted a full on proper Chinese tea ceremony and the Lansdowne were happy to oblige. Colleen even changed out of her beautiful Caroline Parkes dress into something a little more traditional.

Secondly the cake - or rather cakes. Not content with a lovely 3 tier traditional wedding cake

There was also another cake just for Francis.

Colleen had arranged this and warned me a couple of days before the wedding because Francis doesn’t like fruit cake. There was actually a third cake since it was also Francis’ mother’s birthday - but you’ll have to wait for the full pictures to see that.

The Landsdowne provided a great venue for the reception and their ballroom was just perfect for a ceildh to round off the day.
