James and Daniela - slideshow now online

June 26, 2007 | 2 Comments

It only seems the other day that I was photographing James and Daniela’s Salsa Wedding. Actually it was only the other day! Today’s Tuesday and the wedding was on Saturday.

James and Daniela are off on honeymoon at the moment. Normally their pictures would remain a surprise for them on their return. However, lots of Daniela’s family have travelled from Venezuela and can’t wait to see them. The happy couple asked if I wouldn’t mind putting a few online for them to see as soon as possible so I’ve created a 1 minute slideshow.

Daniela and James - salsa in deepest Kent

Flowers, flowers, everywhere.

I met up with James and Daniela a few weeks before their wedding in the sleepy Kent village of Wrotham. Two things were clear -
1. This was going to be fun - James is a very laid back solicitor and Daniela is a vivacious Venezuelan - this was never going to be one of those quiet village weddings.
2. There would be flowers everywhere.

I arrived early and sure enough a top florist had travelled from Windsor and was spending hours dressing the church and the reception venue. To give you an idea, here’s the bridal bouquet…

Even more pictures from Carly and Gareth online

Well, not exactly more pictures, more like bigger pictures.

I love posting the online galleries at YourWeddingStory - it gives all the family and friends of my bride and groom a chance to see the whole wedding. It’s also great for my prospective clients. They can go and see every picture that I presented for a wedding rather than rely on my 10 best ever shots. They can also see the whole wedding story, start to finish. there’s just one problem with them - I have something over 3 thousand pictures online now. And as the summer season kicks in you can expect that number to rocket. For all kinds of technical reasons that means I have to keep the pictures small.

That works well with most pictures but if somebody is trying to choose a group shot for enlargement they like to see a bigger image. I’m looking into a permanent solution based on Zoomify (check out the cool preview of a Zoomify image below) but in the meantime I have just posted the group shots from Carly and Gareth’s wedding at a higher resolution right here.

Why? Because somebody asked me too ;) - if there are any pictures you need to see larger to help with your order then just drop me an email and I’ll see what I can do.

There’s a zoomify shot below. Zoom in scroll around, have fun!

New ways to keep in touch

June 16, 2007 | Leave a Comment

You probably know by no that the blog is the place to find out the very latest information from MyWeddingStory. More importantly it’s the fastest way to see pictures. The first images from a wedding are generally posted here within a couple of days of the wedding itself.

Well, I’ve just added a couple of new ways to keep up to date.

Firstly, check the homepage. Towards the bottom you’ll see the latest headlines from the blog - like this.

Homepage Rss Blog

That’s the top five stories from the blog updated in real time.

Even better, look to the left on this page and you’ll see a box like this.

How to subscribe to the MyWeddingStory Blog

There are 3 options there. If you’re into RSS then click either of the links to receive an RSS feed in your favourite reader. Even more exciting, just enter your email address and click “subscribe”. That way you will receive an email whenever the blog gets updated. Can’t wait to see your friends’ pictures or even your own? Then check the home page every day - or just subscribe to the email feed. You’ll get emailed every day the blog gets updated.

12 weeks to raise £750,000

June 15, 2007 | Leave a Comment

This is nothing to do with weddings and it’s only a little bit to do with photography, but it’s right in my back yard and it’s something that just needs doing.

Five miles from Battle in East Sussex there’s a rather beautiful wood. So beautiful it’s an area of outstanding natural beauty. It’s also a Site of Nature Conservation Interest. It contains ancient woodland (and we have very little of that left), gyll woodland (nope, I don’t know either) and open heathland. It is stuffed full of wildlife including wild boar and steeped in history.

You’ve probably guessed by now that I’m not just writing about this to tell you how beautiful it is.

It’s up for sale. It’s going on the market to the highest bidder to be carved up into lots. I really have no idea who will buy it but I’m guessing that only big firms and property developers have that kind of money. That’s if the Woodland Trust don’t buy it first. They have been given a ridiculously short 12 weeks to buy it. The price? £750,000. Since that works out at just over £1,000 an acre it sounds like a bargain to me.

If you can help then please pop over to the Woodland Trust Brede High Woods Appeal. Or just book your wedding with MyWeddingStory. Book your wedding between now and the end of the appeal and we’ll donate 10% of the booking fee to the Brede High Woods Appeal. No ifs, no buts. That will be in addition to any other donations we make to the appeal.

Even if you can’t help then I’d recommend the Woodland Trust site - there are some lovely pictures of the wood on there. See, it was a bit to do with photography…
