Richard and Clare - a wizard wedding

July 31, 2007

There aren’t many vicars who can get a laugh by starting their sermon “when I was younger” and then going on to talk about Harry Potter (who bears more than a passing resemblance to Philip, the vicar at St Peters). But when he did it kind of set the tone for a very cool day.

Clare may have been concerned that her beautiful dress wouldn’t allow her to sit elegantly in the church, but as you can see everything went perfectly.

I’m used to working with an “audience” but I have seldom seen so many cameras at a wedding as there were at Richard and Clare’s! Not only were there about 120 people in the church, there was also Clare’s father’s male voice choir - all 38 of them. Pictures on the green after the wedding were a lot of fun. And I know for a fact that one of the guests got a great picture of me taking this one.

After the wedding we went on to Courtstairs which I had visited recently for Sarah and Corey’s wedding. With the help of Tony Stokes (the toastmaster) we managed to arrange a whole blizzard of confetti. Or it would have been a blizzard if the sea breeze hadn’t caught it all….

One of the things I love most about my “job” is that I get to spend the whole day at the wedding. Not only does that give me a chance to relax with the guests and get soem wonderful candids, it means that I’m able to take pictures at different times of the day. If I had left before dinner then I would never have been able to take this late afternoon portrait.

You can see from the lights in the house that we were already starting to lose the light here. However, that doesn’t even begin to compare with my favourite shot from the day - one of my signature night portraits taken just after dusk with the house as background.

Lots more pictures when Richard and Clare are back from honeymoon.
