Annabel and Jaco - don’t mention the score…

Some days are easy. And then there are some days where a large part of the wedding party are South African on the day after the “World Champions” get hammered by them in the worst defeat for English rugby in years… Fortunately Jaco and his compatriots behaved like gentlemen and there was almost no rubbing it in at all :)
Besides, there was no time for talk of rugby when all eyes were focussed on Annabel and Jaco and everyone was set on a wonderful wedding and huge party at St Peters Church Broadstairs and Quex respectively.

Annabel and her father Bill arrived at St Peters in a wonderful old funky rolls. It would be unsporting of me to reveal just whose hat they brought with them. Let’s just say that Carryl was delighted to see them both.

I’ve mentioned before what a lovely church St Peters is. From the marvelous painted ceiling to the beautiful area for signing the register to the Reverend Philip Hobday who makes the entire congregation including the photographer feel welcome to his church. Outside there is a beautiful tree lined avenue and Annabel and Jaco took a short walk there before heading off to Quex.

once we arrived at Quex, the reception room had been set out ready for everybody - including chair backs in the exact colour of the bridesmaids dresses. Apparently BowsChairCovers have literally dozens of shades of fabric.

The chair backs were even a pretty good match for the goldfish…..

A while ago, I commented to a friend that first dance can be the most technically difficult shot of the day. Not only is it getting dark by then and the DJ’s lights can be “unpredictable” but of course every single guest wants to take their own pictures too. Add to this the fact that I’ve often been shooting for 10 or more hours at this point and it all adds up to a challenge. Of course, I only though first dance was hard before I started photographing fireworks. Pitch dark, with fireworks bursting all over the sky and all the guests watching it can be quite exciting. Of course I’ve shot them a number of times before, you can see some examples at Tony and Karen’s wedding or Emma and Dan’s and there are always the ones I shot for Leeds Castle. It’s still slightly nerve wracking though waiting in the dark for the first shells to burst. However, with a full briefing with the pyro team and a very accommodating bride and groom - well, how could I go wrong….?

After that, first dance was a piece of cake :)
