Helen and Shane - an Ausie/English wedding. Take 1.

Helen arrives at Walmer Castle ina double decker bus for her wedding to Shane

The bride turned up on a double decker bus at the 16th century castle that became the home of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Later in the day there was a barbie complete with shrimps and a huge p-a-a-a-a-arty. It could only mean one thing - part one of my Ausie/English wedding “weekend” had started.

Of course it wasn’t really a weekend - day 1 was Friday. By a startling coincidence, I had two weddings on successive days with couples who had flown in from Australia specially for the occasion. Both couples had found me via the internet, loved the pictures and swapped a whole bunch of emails before we finally met.

Helen and Shane really went to town with their venue. Not only did they have the fabulous Walmer Castle for the ceremony, afterwards we all jumped on their bus and headed down the coast to Deal Castle for the reception.

And of course, being just a stone’s throw from the beach, we were there when the sun started doing its magic and lighting everything up with those gorgeous colours.

And of course, no Australian celebration would be complete without a proper barbie - prepared within the stone walls of the castle to avoid any accidents or the need to call out the fire brigade

Inside the castle, everything was beautiful. The round rooms gave a lovely cosy atmosphere, there were candles everywhere and fantastic flowers such as this stunning table decoration by Contemporary Flowers of Canterbury.

And of course a castle with floodlights, a gorgeous bride and groom and soft light on the night stone was just too much to resist. I begged Helen and Shane to pop out for one of my signature night portraits…
