Dancing lions and fireworks that stop traffic

This way to the party

Now you’d think that a few photographs at a private party in a client’s garden would be a quiet weekend for me. But the sign above gives you a small clue. It’s pointing to a h-u-g-e marquee. Fabulous private party? Yes. Small? No.

This was an anniversary party and the planners had been on the case for a year. Before the night was out there would be a string quartet, lion dancing, drumming, fireworks that stopped traffic, some of the finest wines the sommelier had ever handled and dancing. Lots of dancing.

Fortunately there was a top team from event planners ISIS events on hand to make everything run smoothly. As you’ll see from the pictures - they even planned the weather perfectly ;)

The party had a Chinese theme with beautiful colour co-ordination in red, gold and white so there were red and gold Chinese lanterns everywhere.

But inside the marquee, everything was white.

There were also gorgeous little touches such as bamboo arrangements on all the tables by the pool.

As you’d expect, even the canapes were themed and exquisitely presented and served.

But the guests didn’t have long to savour them as all of a sudden the lion dancing kicked off to the accompaniment of the Nam Yang drummers.

Even with the gorgeous weather though - personally I could hardly wait for it to go dark. Because that’s when you get fireworks. And I love photographing fireworks :)

As always, Pyrovision did us proud. Apart from the mandatory “oohs” and “aahs” I heard a couple of comments. One was from a guest who said “those aren’t proper Catherine Wheels - they kept spinning!”. And another was from a taxi driver. Apparently the show literally stopped traffic. 4 miles away.

Of course if you stalk our website then you’ll know that some of my favourite pictures from MyWeddingStory are after dark. Of course this was no exception.

With the gardens beautifully lit by uplighters, magic colour changing spheres and tiny lanterns courtesy of Rel-Event, the whole garden glowed.

And of course if you choose your moment right, ignore practically every rule of photography and just believe then the sky can turn this amazing burnished copper colour.

Oh and I nearly forgot the dancing. There was rather a lot of dancing. Some of it was rather good :)
Disco dancing. In a tent. At night. This can only be MyWeddingStory.

But I saved my favourite for last. When I remember the party it will always have a magical fairy tale like quality to it. The tents, the lights, the shimmering pool the perfect weather and friends enjoying themselves…..
