Wedding photography in a modern storytelling style

Home / Featured / First look / Tania and Phil: Chillin’ at the beach

So we had all the normal stuff.  Beautiful bride, handsome groom, posh frocks the works.

Then we had the cool stuff.  Beach bar (actually it’s a brewery on the beach – tailor made for jokes in the speeches!), home made cup cakes, afternoon tea, fish and chip supper.  Oh and cool laid back people who made my day a whole lot of fun.

This one was definitely cool.

So sometimes it gets a little tense where the girls are getting ready.  Sometimes they just don’t want me there until they are almost ready.

No problem.  I pack a long lens and don’t get too scared hanging out of a third floor window……… :)

But of course it was worth the wait.  And then it was all hands to the dress!

And of course, no laid back beach wedding would be complete without a cool retro convertible.  On this occasion a gorgeous cream Beetle.  Most eyes weren’t on the car though.

Inside the register office things were slightly more, well….take a look for yourself.

OK, before we go any further I’d better clear up a couple of liberties I’ve taken with the truth here….

  1. The wedding itself wasn’t actually on the beach.  Sadly there no licensed structure on Whitstable Beach.  So we were in Wellington House in Canterbury.
  2. Despite appearances Phil isn’t actually going “oh no, what am I doing”.  He was, quite frankly over the moon and is seen here laughing his head off just before the ceremony.

Still, I think it’s a better story my way :)

Anyway, back to the plot.  Or rather the wedding.

And then it was time to get to the beach!

Most of my pictures are unposed, photojournalistic candids.  But for some really special shots I do give a little direction.  I think my exact words were “go over there and smoulder”.  Tania pretty much nailed smouldering…..

She may look great in a gorgeous dress but Tania’s also pretty good as a voice activated light stand :)

Now there’s a part in most weddings where we do a few group pictures.  For historical reasons these are referred to “in the trade” as “formals”.  No reason why they have to be formal though ;)   These would be the guys…..

And how’s this for a cake?  Especially when you know lots of it was made by the bride herself.

But of course, you can’t go to Whitstable without having fish and chips.  Even if the mobile chip van came from Tunbridge.

But of all things, Whitstable is pretty famous for its sunsets……

Thank you Mr and Mrs Simnor for a fabulous day.  There will be loads more pictures when you get back from honeymoon!

If you enjoyed the day as much as I did or if you just enjoyed looking ta the pictures then please leave your wishes for Tania and Phil below.
